Still Life Writing

M.P. – This photo has good variety in its colors with its three different colored backgrounds as well as good contrast between the bright subject and darker backgrounds. The subject also differs in color compared to all three backgrounds, which allow it to stand out more. The head-on viewpoint the photograph is taken from allows the background to lead the viewer’s eyes in the direction of the subject as well as helps it to stand out. Overall, I like the simplicity and visual appeal.

M.S. – This photograph has a great deal of unity using nearly all white except for the flowers (subject). It relies on shadows and the contrast between light and dark to bring out the subject. This both allows the subject to stand out and makes the picture more clean and smooth. This picture is very satisfying and pleasant to look at.

R. S. – This photograph also accels in its unity aspect by having all the items the same orange color placed on top of a dark, black background. The items reflect off of the surface they are placed on which adds to the glowing or warm feeling of the photo. The subject “pops” out at the viewer and gives them a warm feeling. A head-on viewpoint allows this photo to stand out more because it shows more color.
